Today's post is a bit overdue, because some of the photos were taken a few months ago at one of our meetings at the church. Nevertheless, I promised that I would post some of the photos; so here we go.
Simple window light coming in from a large bank of windows; camera left. |
Not a silhouette. |
What normally happens in that instance is that the camera will register a lot of the bright light in the background and give you an exposure that makes the background look great, but your subject is a silhouette. Now, if you wanted a silhouette then you're a master. If you didn't, then you're stuck...not quite.
One thing to keep in mind is to fill the frame with your subject and don't let the camera see any of the background. That way, the camera will read the light coming from your subject and you should get a pretty good exposure; and most likely a bit of a rim light/halo look around your subject.
Notice the light hitting Gerhard on both sides of his face, and seemingly on the top of his head. The very bright light, over his left shoulder (camera right) is one of the large sets of windows at the church. There is another set over his right shoulder.
There are several other things to do, but I don't want to be writing out an entire Photography Curriculum. Plus I can share some of it in other posts.
This is one of the fans in the Atrium of the church, where we hold Photo Club. This fan was actually squeaking, which is why it got the attention. |
This is Leah, one of our newest members. |
This is Jackie (Lizard for those who read her blog); notice the 'sloth like' man hands on this woman...WOW. Most MLB catchers would pay to have a mitt like that. |
Here, we are shooting with soft window light. |
This is Becky, by the huge set of windows. |
This is Kendra, in front of the huge set of windows. |
